Lahni Lahni brushed back her hair for the millionth time. She had yet again forgotten her hair tie to hold the long, tangled mass of hair off of her neck. The back of her neck itched as the strands of hair plastered themselves to the sweat that was beading there. She loved spending time at the shrine, it always made her feel connected to something bigger, but she hated the hike out to it. She had to wind deep into the forest where the animals were bigger and less frightened by the appearance of a person.
After what seemed like hours of hiking, but in reality it was probably only forty minutes, Lahni reached the shrine. She stepped inside the barrier that the mossy rocks provided and kneeled. She ran her fingers through the untamed grass and tossed back her head. She let the feeling of absolute freedom wash over her and she sat there with her eyes closed.
Lahni enjoyed visiting the spirits where they seemed to be the strongest because they made her feel like she meant something. They made her believe that she had some great fate about her. In reality she was probably just making all these feelings up, but then again maybe she wasn't.
After sitting for a few moments Lahni stood again, walking over to the shrine. She ran her fingers over the stone and wondered what it had been built for. She had heard many different stories and legends, but which of them was true? Or was it a collection of them that were true? She knew that all stories and legends spanned from some small piece of truth, but when it came to this shrine, what was that little piece of truth? Lahni wondered if she would ever know, and decided it was doubtful.
Lahni stopped walking, letting her fingers trace over an ancient rune, one that was so ancient nobody had the abilities to translate it. There was many runes like this one on the shrine, probably telling a small piece of its history. A piece that would probably never be known again.
Sighing, Lahni wandered back over to where she had been kneeling. She had dropped her back there, and wanted some food out of it. She also wished to find a tree big enough she could take a small nap in. Lahni grabbed a sack with dried fruit in it and shouldered her bag. She then set off to find a decent sized tree.

Freedom. . . That is what life is for her now. She still could not believe it. Actual freedom! She sure as hell wasn't going to waste it. Even though she was exhausted, hungry, and a little dirty, she still was happier then she had ever been in..well as long as she could remember. It had been only a couple months since she found this little town, hidden from reality and with a vibe of pure energy about it. She felt, well almost, safe, for the first time in her life. No experiements. No tests. Nothing. Larks was piled high in the tree tops, almost near the top of a century year old oak tree. Her body shifts comfortable on a huge branch, having already checked that it would support her light weight frame. Even though she looked like a normal human in stature, her bones were denser, causing her weight to be lower then it appeared to be. Her small weight allowed her to perch on branches most normal weight beings would not be able too. Lifting her arms up above her head and locking behind, she interlaced her fingers and stared up at the skyline above. Only a few branches blocked her view, but from below she was invisible to the naked eye. Slowly her eyes slipped shut, exhaustion taking fold after her long journey. Despite being so high up, heights never bothered her and she felt better being high above where most would bother to look. It had only been a few moments, which felt like no time at all, before she heard her. Someone was walking leisurily below. Alert and alarm instinct took over as she switched frame to perch on the branch and peer down through the brush. Her eye sight focused and although she was very high in the tree, her bird like sight allowed her to zoom in on Lahni. Curiousity perked as she watched her touch the run gently, before watching the young lady grab food. Larks stomach rumbled. Eyes narrowing as she studied the girl, leaning forward as she walked closer to the brush, causing a couple branches to snap and clamber down to the ground below her. Curiosity was never a storng instincts. What was that saying Dr G. always said? "Curiosity flattened the bird". But she couldn't help her studies, she had not had any real interaction with another being other then the doctor and her brother.

Lahni Lahni gnawed on a particularly tough strip of mango as she made her trek. She was a few feet away from the tree she had selected when some twigs and small branches fell to the ground less then a foot away. Lahni instinctively reached for her bow which she usually hung over her shoulder. She realized then that she had left her bow home because she had decided that she wouldn't need it. Of course now she would be attacked by some large tree climbing elf eater, but that was her fault.
Lahni's eyes snapped up as she mentally cursed herself for forgetting her weaponry. Up above was not what she had expected. She had been thinking there would be a large bear or lion, or something vicious. Instead there was a girl perched on a branch insanely high up in the tree. There was no way that girl could stand on a branch that small without breaking it, and yet she was.
Lahni let her eyebrows knit together and she squinted her eyes to get a better look at the girl. She couldn't make out any of the girls features, except for the white hair. Lahni wondered if she should call up to the girl, or just stand there. Something about the girl's stance told Lahni that she wasn't dangerous, at least not yet, but Lahni was sure that could change in an instant. Instead of calling up to the girl, and breaking the ice Lahni decided to just stare back. The weapons master had taught her never to let her guard down, and that was exactly what she would do if she invited the girl down to chat. No she would wait, and see exactly what Larks wanted.

Obviously she had been sighted, that much was obvious as the girl stared straight at where she was. What should she do? Should she leave? But... Her eyes looked at the girls sack where she knew food must be kept. Tongue flickering out over her lips before scowling to herself with her indecision. Obviously the girl was not dangerous. No weapons could be seen, although that did not mean a hidden dagger or two was beneath her clothing or someone else about the area. She listened carefully before turning her eyes to break the girls stare for just a moment to glance quickly around the surroundings down towards the shrine.
Nothing. No one was around except for a scurrying rabbit in the distance. Suddenly her mind was made up and she lept off the branch forward as far as she could to make sure she cleared the ground. Falling with her body straight like a bullet towards the ground at rapid speed before shooting her wings out. A massive wingspan of thirteen feet from tip to tip spread out vast behind her from her shoulder blades, catching into the wind to glide her down to the ground where she landed only a meter from the girl.
Once on the ground her white and silver wings curled in and hid behind her back, closing in and seeming to shrink as much as possible. Obviously a bit nervous she looked around again before glancing at the girl a bit pecurilarily. "Food?" Sharp eyes stared around her again before looking at the stranger expectantly. Even though she was nervous, she showed no fear. Standing there in a ragged black t-shirt with slits in the back for her wings and dirty jeans, one could instantly tell her living quarters were not under a roof. The only other thing that was odd about her, was the iron metal collar that was snug around her throat, a good inch thick with inscriptions along the outside.
She did not have any manners, well none that hadn't been imprinted on her from a father or motherly figure. One could say her overall experience conversing was non existent unless it was with her brother who she knew through and through. Obviously she did not understand the concept of 'hellos'.

Lahni Lahni watched in horror as the girl leapt from the tree branch, diving to earth as if jumping into a pool. Lahni's look of horror changed to one of wonder as she watched the girl unfurl huge wings that were twice as long as Lahni was tall. Lahni composed herself by the time that the girl had landed. She tried to ignore the wings as she took in the girls overall appearance. She had obviously been on the run from something, or someone, but what or who could that be? Larks was practically skin and bones in Lahni's eyes, she had the eyes of a starved animal, and the look of one too. Lahni studied the girl for a few more moments, wondering what to do next when Larks spoke.
Food? Suddenly Lahni realized that the half starved look that the girl had was not a facade. She was actually half starved. Lahni didn't even think about the social etiquette that was supposed to follow a request for food. Instead she handed the girl her small sack of dried fruit before pulling her back off her shoulder and digging for more food. All she had in here was a few small slices of bread, and a small slab of dried meat. Lahni stretched her hands out to Larks, they held the bread and dried meat.
"That is all I have." Lahni told the girl, tilting her head to the side and she studied the girl further. She wondered again where the girl had come from, but she didn't dare ask.

Larks watched her carefully, wary as a bird about to take flight, before seeing the food offered. Her eyes grew wide at it before the smallest of smiles flittered on her face and she snatched the food. Another quick glance around before she devoured it as fast as possible. In an instant both the dried meat and bread were gone. Silver eyes peered up at the girl before her, studying her again carefully before admitting to herself no agression was permitted.
She was about to speak before her eyes shot over the nameless girls shoulder to see two brown spheres staring at them. A beast silently wandered out of the brush, only a couple meters behind the stranger and her. It appeared in a moment on all fours, large maw opened slightly to show off yellowed sharp teeth. It was a beast in Larks eyes, but to any other it would be known as a very large, very agressive seeming, grizzly.
Silver wings slowly unfurled, silently spreading up high above her head as she put a long slender finger to her lips. "Stillness..." A warning, barely audible unless you were paying attention. What to do? Did the girl have a weapon? Although it did not seem so. Larks could definitely fly away in an instant, but after the kindness shown, she could not just abandoned her..

Lahni -- Elf Lahni watched, slightly startled, as the girl inhaled the food she had been handed. It was as if she had gone days without food. Lahni wondered if that was the case. She narrowed her eyes slightly, studying the girl with a burning curiosity. Lahni opened her mouth to question the girl, but she stopped when she realized the girl's attention was elsewhere. The girl was now staring over Lahni's shoulder, her eyes gave Lahni no insight into what was behind her, but she assumed that it wasn't a squirrel.
Lahni slowly turned, sending out a silent prayer that is was not one of the grizzlys that stalked this forest. Her prayer was not met, and when she turned around she stared into the large brown orbs that belonged to the huge beast. Lahni murmured a few words under her breath, trying to use what little natural magic she knew to coax the bear into turning around and leaving. She had done this many times before, but on much smaller animals who didn't have very much resistance. The grizzly was a different matter, he fought back, pushing against the slight mental shove Lahni was sending its way.
Lahni pushed harder, but she did not prevail. She was pretty sure she had a knife in her bag, but she didn't like to kill animals that shared the forest with her kind. Although she would if she didn't have a choice. Lahni heard the whisper of a word come from the girls mouth, but Lahni did not hear what she had said. She watched the girls wings slowly unfurl, and she wondered why she had not already taken off. Lahni was certainly faster than this bulky beast, but she would not leave the winged girl behind.
Lahni wanted to suggest flight to the girl, but she was worried that if she opened her mouth and spoke it would only aggitate the bear more. Instead she made small motions at the tree behind them. The large one that Lahni had been trying to get to before the girl had shown up. If the could ease there way back to the tree, Lahni could climb. She was a very fast climber, they just had to get there before the bear realized that its lunch was escaping it. Lahni took a miniscule step backwards, narrowing her eyes at the bear to see if it had registered her movement. It didn't seem to concerned about the small step, as it lifted its nose to the air and began to sniff.

She was impressed by the girl for not screaming like a little damsel and running as fast out of there as she could. Mind you, the beast could easily outrun most prey but most girls didn't think about that. She saw the girl slowly take a step back, looking for a way out, and watched as the beast seemed to calm for just a moment before rearing up on it's hinde legs. A large roar escaped it's lips with its large claws high above it's head.
"Fuck this"
Wings slowly flexed before she leapt forward and wrapped her arms around the girls waist. The sudden movement caused the large creature to lung forward but Larks was quicker then a mangly awkward beast. With a large push down of her wings both bodies flew into the air. The girls foot dangled just out of the claws of their enemy before they flew ito the air. Larks wings carrying them both up fast, the wind pushing and clearing through their hair.
"Hope you don't mind heights"
There was a large smile on her face as she looked down to the beast that was getting smaller in view. It roared after them before going on all fours, head tilted as it watched it's food disappear. Thankfully she was used to carrying another person with her flying, Her brother Avias was never one for wanting to stay on the ground while she flew off. Mind you it was normally only withing 45 meters or so from the ground since she was bound by rope, but it wasn't too different now.
Her wings soared beside her, a downward push even and gentle, before she aimed to lower to the ground gently. Her feet planting to the ground as her wings came in. They were near the Shrine, having not flown for too long, nor too fast as she did not want to scare the poor girl. People that were bound for ground, in Larks opinion, did not do well at having them lifted by a stranger into the skies. The gift of flying was definitely a beautiful freedom she never got sick of herself though.
